About

Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MOC) is a global academic and practitioner network dedicated to improving prosperity through place-based economic strategy, industry cluster development, and evidence-based competitiveness policy. MOC was created by Professor Michael E. Porter at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, and it continues to build on his foundational research on competitive advantage, clusters, and shared value.

Today, the MOC Network includes over 140 member universities around the world, engages 700 faculty, over 55,000 students, and supports applied research and field projects that translate rigorous economic frameworks into real-world impact.  The MOC program operates internationally as a program of Global Action Platform, which serves as the administrative and fiscal manager of the network and its global activities.

§   We offer an international course "Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MOC): Firms, Clusters, and Economic Development", designed by Professor Michael E. Porter based on Harvard Business School cases, with all the course material online.

§   We promote Research in different fields of competitiveness and social progress.

§   We drive global impact projects and institutes around the world.

Implement

The Network implements its mission through the following program activities--

Annual Faculty Workshop (workshop for new and existing faculty) — includes teaching labs, research sessions, and regional chapter meetings.
Regional chapters (Asia-Pacific, European, LATAM) offering localized engagement and thematic dialogue.
Global community: 140+ universities, ~700 faculty, 55,000+ students
Private affiliate website with course content and resources for instructors and dissemination to students.
Promotion of research in competitiveness and social progress is referenced on the site.
Collaborations: Members work jointly, co-teach, host colleagues, and engage in research initiatives.
Regional Chapters often generate research and discussions at local levels.
